Mark Halperin’s three things to watch for in presidential politics today, April 13, 2009:
1. Watch to see if the pirate story continues to dominate news coverage to such an extent that White House officials talk about little else and get asked about little else.
2. The long-awaited First Dog is officially here, a sixth-month-old Portuguese water dog whom the girls have named Bo. See if the puppy story keeps dominating coverage, again, to blot out other news.
3. To the extent that killing pirates and new puppies don’t blot out all other news,, watch to see what story emerges to dominate the week. A lot of economic news is possible; last week the administration was starting to talk up the economy just a little bit, and a lot of earnings reports and other economic data is coming out. Watch to see which story, perhaps an economic one, comes to the fore if puppies and killing pirates recede at all.
