Mark Halperin’s Three Things

Mark Halperin’s three things to watch for in presidential politics today, April 9, 2009:

1. After a day of rest yesterday Obama is back to work holding a roundtable discussion on the economy and interest rates today as new jobless numbers are released.  Watch to see how commanding he is on this issue and how he drives the debate.

2.  Keep an eye on the banks.  Obama is set to receive a progress report on stress tests at the 19 biggest U.S. banks. The banking industry is still a big issue, maybe the biggest issue, out there in terms of turning the economy around.  Watch for developments on that.

3.  Continue to follow immigration.  The New York Times, as always, exerts a lot of influence today in a big story about what Obama’s plans are in 2009 on immigration.  Watch to see how that story reverberates within the Democratic party and the Republican party
