Mark Halperin’s Three Things

Mark Halperin’s three things to watch for in politics for Monday, March 30.

1. Watch as President Obama presents his auto plan today at 11 am ET from the Grand Foyer of the White House. The details out so far are pretty tough on the automakers, giving GM and Chrysler only a few weeks to restructure and forcing out GM CEO Rick Wagoner. Watch to see where the main criticism emerges from elected officials and others.

2. Watch as Obama leaves for his first trip to Europe as president. The president himself spoke to the Financial Times, framing his trip to the G20 as an opportunity for world leaders to come together for the sake of the global economy. Watch to see the administration’s efforts to define the trip for both domestic and international audiences.

3. Watch to see how the financial markets start off the week today. Watch to see how the markets render their verdicts on how the administration’s economic plan is going, particularly the restructuring of the auto industry and the banks.
