Mark Halperin’s three things to watch for in politics for Thursday, February 26.
1. Watch the battle to define President Obama’s budget, which is being released today. As more details emerge and people start reading the proposal, watch to see how political actors try to define what the budget is about. Is it about taxing and spending? Moving the country forward in a new direction? Something else? Watch to see that battle over rhetoric and definition there.
2. Watch to see the focus on specific issues in the budget. Watch to see which ones get the most traction and which ones get the most attacks. In particular, watch to see the discussion of his plans for health care spending — it’s going to be a big debate.
3. Watch for more details about the president’s policy announcement on Iraq. He’s headed to Camp Lejeune in North Carolina tomorrow, where’s he’ll discuss the war and is expected to announce plans to withdraw as many as 100,000 troops by August 2010. Watch as more details emerge and how both sides of the aisle respond to the president’s plans.
