Mark Halperin’s three things to watch for in politics for Thursday, February 19.
1. President Obama takes his first foreign trip to Canada where he will meet with dignitaries and hold a press conference with Prime Minister Stephen Harper. Watch the “pop” and the crazy reaction he gets, but also the substance of the trip, which will focus on maintaining a robust trading relationship between the neighboring countries.
2. Second, watch the continued reaction to the administration’s housing plan announced Wednesday. Watch to see people begin to get on board with this plan if particularly on the left and right, and agree that this is the best we can do in a bad situation.
3. It’s not too early to start thinking about President Obama’s first budget. Details have been pretty scarce so far but we’re getting to the point where people are going to start focusing on the choices he’ll have to make, and of course his first address to Congress and the nation.
