Kennedy Out

Caroline Kennedy ends her bid to fill Hillary Clinton’s vacant New York Senate seat with a murky, one-sentence statement:

“I informed Governor Paterson today that for personal reasons I am withdrawing my name from consideration for the United States Senate.”

Swampland traces the timeline.

NY Post and NY Daily News speculate she backed out after learning Gov. Paterson wasn’t going to select her.

But: NY Times: suggests her uncle Ted Kennedy’s health problems “contributed to her decision.”

Earlier: Confusion reigned.
