Washington, UNITED STATES: US President George W. The Congressional Gold Medal is the highest civilian award bestowed by the United States Congress. Borlaug, 93, won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1970 for creating varieties of wheat that were resistant to disease and doubled and tripled yields in developing countries. Borlaug also founded the World Food Prize based in Des Moines, Iowa, to recognize the efforts of people who have improved the quality and availability of food in the world.
