Mark Halperin’s three things to watch for in presidential politics for Monday, December 8.
- Watch the discussions as they continue on the possible auto industry bailout. President Bush, President-elect Obama, congressional leaders and the Big Three are all working to come to some kind of agreement that will keep the carmakers alive. Reports say that some progress has been made in recent days toward some sort of solution. Watch to see if they can make any more progress toward aiding the companies before the end of the year.
- Watch to see what happens in the economic realm. Obama said on Sunday that the economy “is going to get worse before it gets better,” but his team is trying to stop that downward spiral. They’re formulating a big economic plan and there are lots of negotiations going on with Congress to try to pass something very big very fast. Watch to see what happens on that front.
- Watch the rest of the personnel decisions. There are lots of big jobs still to be filled and plenty of names swirling around as possibilities. Watch for more leaks and announcements this week.
