Politics up to the Minute

Mark Halperin's Three Things

Article Tools

Mark Halperin's three things to watch for in presidential politics for Thursday, December 4.

  1. Watch the economy and the action happening at the Treasury Department today. Also watch as the saga over the potential automaker bailout continues. The Senate Banking Committee holds a hearing today at 10 am ET with testimony from the Big Three CEOs, who are now appealing for a total of $34 billion in federal bailout funds. Watch to see if the economic news coming out of Washington, Wall Street and everywhere else leads to forward progress or more stalemate and concern.
  2. Watch to see what's going on with the incoming Obama administration and Congress on energy and economic stimulus. The New York Times has a story on what those negotiations consist of and what the new administration will be working toward.
  3. Watch to see what names surface for the big jobs in the Obama administration that have yet to be filled. As of now, no big announcements are expected from the president-elect for the rest of the week, but pay attention to the names that do emerge as possibilities. There may be some surprises for one or more of the big positions.
