Paulson: Bailout Won’t Buy “Toxic” Assets


The Treasury Secretary says the bailout will not be used to buy troubled mortgage assets, calling that method “not the most effective way” to spend part of the $700 billion.

Instead, remaining funds will be used to buy financial institution equity so banks can resume “responsibility” of lending.
