Mark Halperin’s three things to watch for in presidential politics for Monday, November 10.
1. Watch the big White House meeting this afternoon with Barack Obama, George Bush and their wives. The Obamas are expected at their future home at 2 pm ET. The president and president-elect will meet separately from their wives, who will tour the residence. Watch both the substance and semiotics there.
2. Watch the Obama team as they continue to try to manage their communications strategy. They’re doing a lot behind the scenes to try to keep things on track. They’ve done a very good job, for instance, of tamping down the press’ expectations that there will be instantaneous appointments to big cabinet jobs. Watch as the Obama team continues to try to deal with the media’s expectations, and unveils a communications plan that is very well orchestrated.
3. Watch on the personnel front. Lots of people are being discussed for jobs. But pay attention. Don’t just assume that because a name is in the press that person is seriously being considered for a job. Don’t assume that all the names for the big jobs are already out there being talked about.
