Mark Halperin’s three things to watch for in presidential politics for Wednesday, November 5.
1. Watch Barack Obama. He can dominate the press any day he wants between now and Inauguration Day if he decides to come out and make news he can be the lead story in the news. Watch to see if he does that on his first day as president-elect despite the fact that he’s not expected to be very visible today and for the rest of the week.
2. Watch personnel announcements. It’s already widely reported that Rep. Rahm Emanuel of Illinois is Obama’s choice for chief of staff. ABC News says Emanuel has been offered the position but has not yet accepted it. Watch for developments on that front. Also watch for other names that get put out there as strong possibilities for key Obama positions.
3. Watch Republican party. It’s amazing how little chaos and fingerpointing there was leading up to the election. Watch to see as conservatives, Republicans and all members of the right try to figure out how to regroup in the wake of a blowout election by almost any measure.
