Palin on Clothes: "That Is Not Who We Are"

The Alaska Gov. tells the Chicago Tribune in a rare newspaper interview that not all the facts were reported in the Politico story about the RNC buying her clothing, and insists it was not $150,000 worth. "That whole thing is just, bad! Oh, if people only knew how frugal we are... It's kind of painful to be criticized for something when all the facts are not out there and are not reported." Adds they will be given back, auctioned off or sent to charity. She says most of them haven't even left the belly of her campaign plane. Permalink

McCain Keeps Up His Assault on D.C. Neighborhood

In the second part of McCain's and Palin's interview with NBC News, the Arizonan defines "elitist" by pointing to New York City and D.C.'s Georgetown. "I know what a lot of these elitists are. The ones that she never went to a cocktail party with in Georgetown." "I'll be very frank with you. Who think that they can dictate what they believe to America rather than let Americans decide for themselves." Palin discusses definition of terrorism, defends her criticism of Obama and Ayers. Palin's Lawyer Traveling With Her

Her personal attorney flew from Alaska to meet the governor on the trail Thursday afternoon to prep her for Friday's deposition. Palin and her husband will issue separate testimonies on Troopergate for the independent investigator working for the Alaska personnel board. Permalink

Axelrod: Obama's Time Off "Not Optimal," But Necessary

The top Obama strategist tells the NY Times that there was "never any debate or discussion or anything" about his candidate traveling to Hawaii to spend time with his ill grandma. "Barack’s grandmother is one of the formidable people in his life. He wants to go see her on the advice of her doctors. He had to do it now. So we’ll just make do." He is not scheduled to have any public appearances in Hawaii, but aides say he'll still be in touch with advisers in Chicago. Permalink

Bloomberg Cleared for Potential Third Term

The New York City Council votes to raise the city's term limit restriction from two terms to three, clearing the way for another Bloomberg run next year. Bloomberg: "The majority of the City Council decided to give the people of New York a fuller choice in the November 2009 election. I believe that was the right choice...." Read full statement.
