OBAMA DRAWS 100,000 IN ST. LOUIS

The Democratic nominee attracts an estimated record crowd -- his biggest event in America to date -- underneath the city's Gateway Arch Saturday. Attempts to straighten out his record on taxes, paint McCain as someone who would give tax breaks for richest Americans and businesses. "My opponent's been talking a lot about taxes in his campaign. But here's the truth Missouri – we are both offering tax cuts. The difference is who we're cutting taxes for." Full remarks here. PHOTOS: See a gallery of the enormous crowd here. Permalink

Biden: McCain "Used to Be a Close Friend"

The Democratic veep candidate -- who often mentions his friendship with the Arizona Senator despite running against him -- had a change of heart Saturday. Says at a San Francisco fundraiser: "He used to be a close friend. What's being done, is a constant attempt to win by actually making, appealing to the cynicism of American people and the sense that government cannot work." Permalink

McCain Still Keeps Focus on Joe

McCain Lawyer Invokes Obama Drug Use

Cindy McCain’s lawyer complains the NY Times hasn’t spent enough time investigating the Land of Lincolner’s youthful drug use, his poor relatives in Kenya and Michelle Obama while responding to a Saturday story. “You have not tried to find Barack Obama's drug dealer that he wrote about in his book, Dreams of My Father. Nor have you interviewed his poor relatives in Kenya and determined why Barack Obama has not rescued them. Thus, there is a terrific lack of balance here.” Read the letter here. Permalink

DeFrank's Powell Doctrine

Fabled NY Daily News scribe and longtime Powell watcher cautions that the general's support for Obama over McCain might stop short of a formal endorsement when on "Meet the Press." And/But: Says a "well-informed source" tells him: "After Sunday people aren't going to have any doubt who he's voting for." Permalink

McCain Camp: NYT Cindy McCain Piece "Gutter Journalism at Its Worst"

The Arizonan's campaign comes out swinging against the Paper of Record for a Saturday story profiling the potential first lady. The Saturday Night Live legend tells Letterman Friday night her strategy for creating such a dead-on Sarah Palin impression. "Not since 'Sling Blade' has there been a voice that anybody can do. Anybody can take a swing at this voice." Says the voice is a little bit "Fargo," a little bit Reese Witherspoon in "Election," adding she also borrowed the Midwestern accent of her friend Paula's grandma. Watch video above. Permalink
