The President issues a tough Monday morning statement suggesting there won't be much flexibility on his side with the government bailout proposal.

"It would not be understandable if Members of Congress sought to use this emergency legislation to pass unrelated provisions, or to insist on provisions that would undermine the effectiveness of the plan."

Comes in the face of members of Congress and columnists (see, for instance, Krugman on the left and Kristol on the right) criticizing the administration's plan, urging caution and a thorough review.
