Mark Halperin’s three things to watch for in presidential politics for Wednesday, September 3:
1) Watch Sarah Palin’s big speech tonight at the Republican National Convention in St. Paul. Pay attention to how she’s received– certainly in the hall she’ll get an overwhelming response, but how she goes over in the rest of the country will be key to watch. Take note of what she talks about, how she presents herself, and what the response seems to be.
2) Pay attention to the continued questions about picking Sarah Palin. There’s been lots of debate on McCain’s veep pick, with more details coming out every day about just how carefully— or not— McCain’s team looked into her background. As the debate over her qualifications continues throughout the day, you can read about all those elements here on The Page.
3) Keep an eye on the balance of this convention, which has been somewhat been overshadowed by the Palin pick. Watch to see how Republicans continue to balance Tuesday’s effort to define Barack Obama in a negative way and John McCain in a positive way. Keep an especially close eye on what the GOP has to say about Barack Obama on Day 3 of this four-day convention.
