Dems Adopt Party Platform

The party's 186-member platform committee agrees to adopt the national platform called "Renewing America's Promise" when it is presented in Denver later this month. Obama Skewers McCain in Nevada TV Spot

The Land of Lincolner's latest attack ad features Rep. Shelly Berkley slamming McCain on his Yucca Mountain position. "John McCain has been the leading proponent of storing nuclear waste in the state of Nevada, while Barack Obama has been adamantly opposed to Yucca Mountain from the start." Watch it above. The Arizonan issues a scathing critique of Obama's judment and readiness to be president in his remarks to the Annual Convention of the Disabled American Veterans in Las Vegas, Nevada Saturday. "Not content to merely predict failure in Iraq, my opponent tried to legislate failure." Permalink

AMERICAN KILLED IN BEIJING

A knife-wielding Chinese man attacked two American tourists midday Saturday killing one and injuring the other at the Drum Tower three miles from the Olympics' main site. The man who died was releated to a U.S. men's volleyball coach. He was with a woman and their tourist guide. The attacker commit suicide following the crime by jumping off the second story of the 13th century landmark. Plus: U.S. men off to a good start in gymnastics. Permalink

Obama Talks Economy, Iraq in Radio Address

The Land of Lincolner reiterates his talking points in the weekly party address. "This is a defining moment in our history. His publicist says the actor/comedian passed away Saturday morning in a Chicago area hospital from complications due to pneumonia. Mac was a supporter of Obama. Permalink

1,500 Reported Killed in Georgia Attacks

Air attacks over the country intensify Saturday as Russian officials report they have retaken the South Ossetian capital, Tskhinvali. Georgia says 10 planes were shot down by Russian troops. Permalink

Obamas Kick Off Weeklong Vacation

The Land of Lincolner along with 17 family members and friends arrived in Honolulu Friday evening. Obama tells reporters upon arriving he's not there to campaign. "I'm going to go body surfing at an undisclosed location. I'm going to see my tutu, my grandmother. I'm going to watch my girls play on the beach." The vacation will also feature a fundraiser at the Kahala Hotel & Resort Tuesday, where he's estimated to rake in more than $1 million. Permalink

Elizabeth Edwards Reacts to Husband's Affair

The wife of the former presidential candidate says her husband made a "terrible mistake" in 2006, says she'll stand by him. "Although John believes he should stand alone and take the consequences of his action now, when the door closes behind him, he has his family waiting for him." Plus: Obama also weighs in, says it's a "difficult and painful time" for the family. "They need to work through the process of healing. My sense is that's going to be their top priority." Permalink
