Mark Halperin's three things to watch for in presidential politics for Wednesday, August 6:
1) Keep an eye on some top veepstakes prospects out on the trail today. Obama is appearing with Senator Evan Bayh in his home state of Indiana today— he will introduce the Senator at a morning town hall meeting in Elkhart. Michelle Obama is also appearing with Governor Tim Kaine in Virginia. Tim Pawlenty, the governor of Minnesota and a prospective G.O.P. veep, is out giving some high-profile speeches in Washington. Watch to see how these people and others do in their ongoing auditions for the number two slot.
2) Ask any pollster what's on the mind of the American people, and energy is still a big issue. Both the Obama and McCain camps will continue to stomp on the issue today, with McCain stopping at an industrial plant West Virginia. Continue to watch the candidates try to win the energy wars today, and all this week.
3) Take note of some stories in newspapers today about the candidates' backgrounds, in particcular today's Boston Globe story on Obama's record in global finance. Watch to see if the two campaigns unleash any opposition research today to try to drive storylines about the other side.
