McCain Aide: Gramm “Was Not Pushed; He Jumped”

A senior McCain official tells the Washington Times Gramm decided on his own to resign following reports of a Novak column that the two had “patched up their relationship.”

“Phil found out about the Novak column and he wanted out. There was a mild attempt to convince him to hold off, to discuss it further. Gramm said he didn’t want to be a distraction for McCain.”
