"Tasteless and Offensive"
The Obama camp denounces this week's New Yorker cover -- featuring Obama in Muslim garb fist-bumping his wife with an Afro and a machine gun, as an American flag burns in the fireplace.
Full statement here.
McCain spokesman Tucker Bounds echoes the response: "We completely agree with the Obama campaign."
Learning of the cover from the press, Obama himself says, "I have no response to that."
New Yorker editor Remnick defends the cover as satire: "What I think it does is hold up a mirror to the prejudice and dark imaginings about Barack Obama's - both Obamas' - past, and their politics."
