McCain's Turn to Address La Raza

The Arizonan will address the National Council of La Raza's annual conference in San Diego Monday afternoon, a day after Obama spoke before the major Latino group. McCain will say he's earned the trust of Hispanic voters by championing an immigration reform bill that nearly killed his presidential bid. "I took my lumps for it without complaint. My campaign was written off as a lost cause. I did so not just because I believed it was the right thing to do for Hispanic Americans. It was the right thing to do for all Americans." On Sunday afternoon, McCain visited his southwest regional campaign headquarters in Phoenix, maintaining that "I'm the underdog in this race, okay? I'm the underdog. And I do best when I'm the underdog." He'll also attend an evening funcraiser in downtown Albuquerque. Permalink
