Merkel Uneasy Over Obama Brandenburg Gate Address

A spokesman for the German Chancellor signals she's not keen on Obama potentially using the historic landmark as a speech backdrop this summer. Says Merkel is skeptical "whether it is appropriate to bring an election campaign being fought not in Germany but in the United States to the Brandenburg Gate." Also stresses the chancellor is "very happy" to have Obama visit the country and meet with her and the foreign minister. Permalink

Obama: No More Family Interviews

The Senator says the "Access Hollywood" interview with him, his wife and two daughters that aired Tuesday "cropped up" and will not be repeated. Click above to watch him on NBC's "Today." AFL-CIO Tries to Keep Veterans from Voting McCain

The Obama-supporting labor federation will go up with a new TV ad Thursday in six battleground states to stop members who are also veterans from going with the former Navy fighter. Watch ad above. Ad features a Navy pilot saying: "Every vet respects John McCain's war service. It's his record in the Senate that I have a problem with." The group is expected to spend $53.4 million in its efforts. Obama-Clinton Take 2

Oooops!!!! The Land of Lincolner leaps back on stage after his final curtain call at a Manhattan fundraiser Wednesday night after forgetting to ask donors for help with Clinton's debt. Convention Headaches Make Other Cities Think Twice

WSJ: The mounting security costs and fundraising problems being showcased in Denver, St. Paul are turning other cities off. Plus: Politico reports networks may limit Democratic convention coverage to balance anticipated cost of moving Obama's acceptance speech to Invesco Field. Bush Hails Climate Change Work as G-8 Wraps Up

The President says in his closing statement to the group that "significant progress" has been made on global warming. "In order to address climate change, all major economies must be at the table, and that's what took place today." He also assured China's President he's excited about attending Olympics, defended a languishing deal to sell India nuclear fuel and technology to India's prime minister in morning talks. Permalink

Obama Donors Aren't Rushing to Help Pay Off Clinton Debt

NY Times: Many won't give to a campaign they feel fell deeper into debt while attacking Obama when the race was over. Clinton aides feel Obama's efforts to help retire her debt have been "half-hearted." So far Obama donors have come up with less than $100,000 (though more in pledges) to put towards Clinton's $23 million debt. Permalink
