Mark Halperin's three things to watch for in presidential politics for Tuesday, July 8:
1) Watch as both John McCain and Barack Obama speak to the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) at its 79th annual convention in Washington, D.C. This is another key group of Hispanic leaders. McCain intends to keep focus on jobs, reiterating most of Monday's proposal, including the importance of small businesses and taking indirect swipes at Obama on taxes while Obama will focus on issues facing the Latino community including jobs, immigration and education. The Senator from Arizona will speak first around noon and Obama follows around 4:30 pm ET. Watch to see how they compare in terms of their reception from the audience and in terms of how they perform.
2) Keep an eye on both of the candidates as they stomp in key states today: Obama in Powder Springs, Georgia and McCain in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Obama will hold a town hall meeting this morning on bankruptcy and housing while McCain holds an arrival event at the airport in Moon Township and a Pittsburgh fundraiser. Watch to see how they do -- Obama on the stump in another Red state and McCain on Blue turf -- encroaching on each other's electoral votes. Pay attention to the reactions there.
3) Watch to see if there's any more movement on the vice presidential front today. Things got moving yesterday with Virginia Senator Jim Webb making a big splash by taking himself out of contention for the slot. Word also broke that the Obama camp's vetting team has begun distributing paperwork requesting information from different candidates so they can submit to the review process. Watch to see if there's any more movement on that front today, including if we learn about other possible candidates being vetted or perhaps other people taking themselves out of the running.
