Conflicting accounts from campaign counsels Potter (McCain) and Bauer (Obama) over their discussions before Obama declined to accept public financing. The two map it out for The Page:

Bauer: “Trevor and I discussed this… I have several pages of notes to show for it.” Read detailed statement.

Potter: “The ENTIRE meeting lasted 40 minutes… Other than this informal discussion, there have been no contacts between the two campaigns on the subject.” Read detailed statement.

Dispute comes after Obama spokesman Burton said "our campaign counsels met and it was immediately clear that McCain's campaign had no interest in the possibility of an agreement."
