Catholic League Attacks Obama’s Ties to Pfleger

Group’s President Bill Donohue says incident undermines Obama’s message of wanting to bring people together.

“Then why does he choose as his clerical friends people like Rev. Jeremiah Wright and Father Pfleger? They are two peas in a pod, both equally divisive, separated only by the color of their skin.”

Plus: Cardinal from Chicago’s Roman Catholic Archdiocese says he’s secured a promise from Pfleger that he’ll stop commenting on the presidential campaign.

Pfleger expresses regret in statement: “These words are inconsistent with Senator Obama’s life and message, and I am deeply sorry if they offended Senator Clinton or anyone else who saw them.”

Clinton camp has said that Obama did not go far enough in rebuking Pfleger. Read their statement here.

Wisconsin Gov. Doyle defends Obama on media call, says “there are a lot of people who make a lot of crazy statements out there…I don’t think you can in any way attribute it to a candidate.”
