Obama Camp Concedes Error on Auschwitz Comment

Campaign says the Senator meant to say his great uncle helped liberate the Buchenwald concentration camp during World War II, not Auschwitz. Auschwitz was liberated by Soviet troops. The RNC, among others, had pounced on Monday's misstatement. Permalink

Obama Camp Not Interested in Joining McCain on Potential Iraq Trip

Spokesman Bill Burton tells Talking Points Memo the idea "is nothing more than a political stunt." "...we don't need any more 'Mission Accomplished' banners or walks through Baghdad markets to know that Iraq's leaders have not made the political progress that was the stated purpose of the surge." Comes after McCain agreed to a joint trip with his Democratic opponent, telling the AP Monday night “it would be fine.” Permalink

The two frontrunners clash on several fronts Tuesday: --The McCain-Bush fundraiser Noting Tuesday's fundraiser will be off-limits to the public, Obama suggests McCain will appear "hat in hand" with "the President whose failed policies he promises to continue." Bob Schieffer downplayed Obama’s sharp reaction to the fundraiser, saying it’s a common attack line among candidates. NBC: Mentioned Bush-McCain fundraiser, kept "as private as possible."
