Richardson Strikes Back -- Again

"Governor Richardson has never questioned Senator Obama's electability," spokesman says in a statement. Contradicts informed source who told The Page and others it was the New Mexico Governor, in talks with both Clintons about his endorsement, who was the one to argue Obama didn't have experience necessary to beat McCain. Obama begins to run ads on Spanish-language TV in Philadelphia Thursday. Warm-and-fuzzy spot emphasizes family values, healthcare, and more. Previously ran in Texas. ABC led with the Clintons' tax records; CBS and NBC with the anniversary of Dr. King's assassination. ABC: Lead report on Clintons' tax returns noted they donated large sums to charity and paid taxes at a higher rate than Bush or Cheney; Mark Halperin wondered why they waited to release the records. Report on King anniversary quoted candidates, included a photo of Obama with the Rev. Wright. CBS: Lead report on King anniversary suggested Obama was not in Memphis to avoid being labeled "the black candidate." Report on tax returns called Clintons' post-presidential income "wildly lucrative," but said charity and tax figures do not give ammunition to critics. "Follow the Money" report looked at Pennsylvania Rep. Murtha and the $2 billion in earmarks he has brought to his district since 1992. Report did not mention his support for Clinton. NBC: Live in Memphis, Brian Williams led the broadcast with his candidate interviews on the anniversary of MLK's assassination, starting with McCain live, then taped Clinton, Obama interviews. All three reflected on King's legacy, how civil rights have progressed since then. Later, package dug into Clintons' tax returns, saying wealth came mostly from their books, B. Clinton speeches and partnership with Ron Burkle. Noted Clintons still haven't disclosed donors to Clinton library or his foundation. Permalink

Clinton's Rendell: There's 50% About Obama We Don't Know Yet

Responding to a question about Clinton's secrecy, Pennsylvania governor tells ABC News there's only about 10% of information the public doesn't know about Clinton, but estimates 50% for Obama. Also says he doesn't think Obama has been up front about his position on nuclear power, and says Clinton is better prepared to take on GOP. Permalink

Kerry Slights McCain's Military Judgment

Obama supporter tells CNN: “John McCain can run around all that he wants right now talking about his military experience. But he made the wrong judgment about Iraq, he has a foreign policy that has made us weaker.” Click above to watch. Permalink

The '04 vice presidential pick responds with a simple "no" during a Q&A following an event in Las Vegas. Also declines to say if he would endorse Clinton or Obama. Permalink

Clinton Up With First North Carolina TV Spot

60-second ad features Clinton speaking straight to the camera as she introduces herself to North Carolinians, points them to her new state website. Watch it above. Read script here. Ad begins running statewide Friday. Campaign says Clinton will answer questions from North Carolina voters in follow-up ads in the coming weeks. McCain Turns Down Secret Service Protection

The presumptive GOP nominee has not requested protection, the agency says. Clinton and Obama do receive Secret Service protection. McCain has said he will want minimal protection if he wins the presidency. Director says it costs $38,000 per day to protect a candidate, and the cost will rise. Permalink

Clinton Accepts North Carolina CBS Debate

Campaign alerts media that she is on board for the network's proposed 90-minute debate for April 27. Network says Obama accepted an earlier proposal for a North Carolina debate April 16. Debate would air from 8 to 9:30 pm ET and be moderated by CBS News’ Katie Couric and Face the Nation host Bob Schieffer. Permalink

Harkin: Bill Clinton "Ought to Chill Out a Little Bit"

Uncommitted Iowa Senator responds to B. Clinton's alleged flare-up with superdelegates in California. "I did say before he ought to chill out a little bit and from what I've seen I think he has, but again this recent thing in California, I don't know." Also jokes that Clinton-supporter Carville is "the most uncontrollable person I've ever met." Plus: Also called McCain's temper "scary" and questioned whether "flying off the handle" would affect his decision-making in the White House. Permalink
