The closed event raised as much as $1 million for the state party, according to Jim Roddey, chairman of the Allegheny County Republican Committee, who reported that the President told local Republicans that McCain gives the party a shot at winning the crucial swing state.

"He thinks it's important for McCain to be in the White House. He's concerned that if the Democrats control the House, Senate and the White House, the spending and welfare programs would just spiral out of control."
