McCain Breaks Public Financing Spending Limits


Reports filed by campaign last week show he’s spent $58.4 million on nomination so far, while those committed to public funding can’t spend more than $54 million.

McCain’s lawyers contend spending cap no longer applies because he wrote a letter to FEC bowing out of the funding program in February. Chairman says FEC hasn’t approved withdrawal yet so rules still apply.
