Obama Wins Mississippi

The Illinois Senator takes the Magnolia State largely along racial lines. He wins 19 delegates and 61 percent of the vote to Clinton's 14 delegates and 37 percent of the vote. Says TIME's Michael Duffy: "Broken down, the Mississippi vote had an unmistakable racial descant — and unmistakable limits for Obama." Permalink

Obama: Pennsylvania's Hard Times Began Under Bill Clinton

  After Mississippi's primary, tells MSNBC that the Keystone State's troubling economic trends got started during the Clinton Administration. Also denies racial component to Clinton's "3 am" ad, and raises fraud concerns about any mail-in re-vote in Florida or Michigan. Earlier, Obama tells CNN Clinton would be on "anybody's short list" for vice president. Plus: Obama to appear in taped interviews on all three network TV shows Wednesday morning.  Permalink

A Defiant Ferraro Defends Herself Over Obama Comment; Clinton Campaign Does Not Remove Her

NY Times: Spitzer Will Not Resign Tuesday

After spending the day considering his options, the embattled NY governor will make no announcement Tuesday. His future plans remain unclear, as Lt. Governor Paterson prepares for a possible succession. New York newspapers report Spitzer solicited high-priced prostitues at least seven or eight times over a period lasting six years or more. U.S. Centcom Commander Fallon to Resign

Admiral William Fallon had overseen U.S. forces in the Middle East. Recent article in Esquire magazine suggested he opposed a potential war with Iran, creating tensions with the White House. Maxim Thorne, a member of Obama's LGBT Council, steps down over negative message about the former first couple. Obama spokesman Vietor: "These comments have no place in this campaign." Permalink

Obama Topper Downplays Pennsylvania

"Pennsylvania is only one of 10 remaining contests, each important...." campaign manager Plouffe writes in memo. In conference call with reporters, calls Clinton "the prohibitive favorite. They should win by a healthy margin there given where they’re starting from.” Response from Clinton spokesman Phil Singer: "The path to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue goes through Pennsylvania. So if Barack Obama can’t win there, how will he win the general election?" Also on the conference call: Plouffe offers stiffest resistance yet to mail-in re-vote in Michigan and Florida, citing security and legal concerns. Listen to audio of the call here.
