Evening News Roundup

Reverberations from New Hampshire led all three programs

ABC: Clinton told Charlie Gibson that choosing between her and Obama, a woman and a black man, is "a good problem for Democrats to have." David Wright said 3,000 attended Obama rally in Jersey City, mentioned Nev. culinary union endorsement. Report from Michigan showed Romney asserting he'll win, mentioned he's pulling ads from other states. Mark Halperin said losing Michigan would probably force him from the race. Report from NH suggested that Clinton's support from women was a response to recent negative press, summed up by one Republican: "Even though I don't support her, it's like, 'You go, girl!'"

CBS: Katie Couric traveled to Chappaqua for a sitdown with Clinton. She acknowledged she "came in with a very big problem" after Iowa, but knew NH voters stayed independent. Said her certainty about winning the nomination in a previous interview "may have" turned off some voters, but said she's humble in other ways. Report from Detroit showed Romney asserting he will win Michigan, mentioned he's pulling ads elsewhere. Bob Schieffer got out the map to show which candidate needs to win what states.

NBC: Live from Nevada, broadcast led with four back-to-back segments on '08. Andrea Mitchell covered Clinton's "stunner," said polls could have been off due to the race factor. Lee Cowan attended Obama's Jersey City rally, where he put his best face on, said race is going to "be even tougher now." (Also referred to polling showing Obama with double digit lead in SC.) Other reports covered McCain and Romney in Michigan, Giuliani in Florida, and Huckabee and Thompson in SC. Russert weighed in, called GOP race "so fluid no one knows what's going to happen." Viewer email section focused on complaints of biased NH primary coverage, poor poll reporting.
